Free Boat Safety Inspections 8 Locations Around County
Mar 21, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Justin McBride, Lee County Natural Resources FREE BOAT SAFETY INSPECTIONS THIS Saturday AT EIGHT LOCATIONS AROUND COUNTY FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 21, 2005) - Event Date: Saturday, March 26, 2005, 9am-2pm. What: Free vessel safety inspections and safety checks. The Lee County Marine Law Enforcement Task Force in conjunction with local US Coast Guard Auxiliaries and Power Squadrons will be offering free vessel safety checks at multiple locations around Lee County on Saturday, March 26th. Boat owners will be able to bring their vessel by water or on a trailer to one of several locations throughout the county and have their vessel inspected. Upon passing the safety inspection the vessel owner will receive certification from either the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Power Squadrons, or US Coast Guard showing that their vessel has passed a safety inspection. West Marine and Boat US Locations will be giving a 10% discount on all safety equipment needed to pass the safety inspection to those who show their completed inspection sheet. The Lee County Marine Law Enforcement Task Force is partnering with the Ft. Myers Power Squadron, Cape Coral Power Squadron, Sanibel-Captiva Power Squadron, USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 9-10 and 9-4, the Nautical Mile, Boat US, West Marine, the Southwest Florida Marine Industries association and the US Army Corps of Engineers to bring this event to Lee County. Locations of the Inspection sites include: On Water: Cape Harbor, Ft. Myers Yacht Basin (floating dock at boat Ramp), and Everest Parkway Boat Ramp. Off Water: West Marine at Summerlin Square, West Marine on Cape Coral Pkwy, Boat US Corner on McGregor Blvd, Everest Parkway Boat Ramp in Cape Coral, Carl Johnson Boat Ramp, and Franklin Locks North and South boat ramps. In addition to the vessel safety checks, the US Coast Guard Station, Ft. Myers Beach is sponsoring a life Jacket display. This traveling display will be located at the West Marine at Summerlin Square from 9am-2pm.
