Community Celebration Unites Creators and Lovers of Art and Literature

FORT MYERS, Florida  Meet the masterminds behind some of the most eye-catching artwork and get copies of some of the latest novels written by area authors during the second-annual Celebration of Authors and Art, on Saturday, March 12.  The celebration, a kick-off event for this year's Lee County Reading Festival (Saturday, March 19), will highlight the works of more than 20 local and regional authors and artists from Lee and surrounding counties.

Sponsored by the Foundation for the Lee County Library System, LCLS and the Alliance for the Arts, the celebration is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alliance (10091 McGregor Blvd.) in Fort Myers.  Featured authors and artists will display and offer their books or artworks for sale and talk to fans and prospective buyers of their creations.  The News-Press cartoonist Doug MacGregor, Fort Myers native Prudy Taylor Board (highly heralded mystery novelist of "Blood Legacy," "The Vow" and the recently published "Murder a la Carte,") and award-winning fine bead artist Judi Wood will be among them.

A $5 donation, which includes a chance to win autographed books and other gift items, is requested instead of an admission fee to enter the celebration.  Donations will benefit the Reading Festival.  Help us celebrate the joy of reading and the beauty of art.  Light refreshments will be served and drinks will be available for purchase.  For more information, call Foundation member Nellie Slaton at (239) 542-0363 or Library Development Specialist Karen Sloan at (239) 461-2914.
