HURRICANE CHARLEY - FINAL DEADLINE UPPER CAPTIVA

FORT MYERS, Fla. (February 7, 2005) - Lee County's Debris Management Contractor is in the process of completing the collection of the demolition debris on Upper Captiva. The Solid Waste Division is requesting that all property owners ensure that their demolition debris is placed along the roads no later than February 13, 2005 for collection and disposal by the County. The County will not be responsible for collecting and disposing any demolition debris brought out to the roadsides after February 13, 2005.

Collection and disposal operations will continue for a few days after the above date but only for eligible material that was brought out to the roads in a timely manner. County and Contractor personnel will take note of any material set out after February 13, 2005, and the respective home-owners will be responsible for the removal of that material.

Demolition debris should be placed in neat piles along the road sides. Appliances, air conditioners and other metal items should be separated from structural demolition debris. Property owners should ensure that their private contractors are properly separating and handling all demolition debris accordingly.

Note: Any and all horticultural debris remaining (after November 14, 2004) is the responsibility of the individual property owners. Debris and solid waste resulting from Total House Demolition, New Construction, and Reconstruction is also the responsibility of the individual property owners.

The Solid Waste Division thanks its residents for their understanding and patience during this critical situation.
