This initiative supports our ongoing mission to ensure a reliable and sustainable alternative water supply for the region. Project Overview: The project includes the drilling of five new production wells into the brackish Lower Hawthorne Aquifer, which will be treated at the North Lee County Reverse Osmosis (NLC RO) Water Treatment Plant. The NLC RO WTP is a vital resource, directly supplying potable water to approximately 20% of LCU customers in North Lee County. Under certain operational conditions, it can serve the entire northern half of the LCU distribution system. This initiative will increase source water capacity to support growing demand, helping the County proactively address population growth and future development.By utilizing alternative water supplies from deeper brackish aquifers, the project also helps preserve shallower aquifers typically used for residential wells, supporting long-term aquifer recharge and sustainability. This important infrastructure upgrade is partially funded by an EPA Community Grant in the amount of $2.4 million, reinforcing our commitment to responsible resource management and environmental stewardship.
