I0171 – Hertz Arena Shelter Hardening

Project Description: Project Description: The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (now the Department of Commerce) awarded Lee County $4,560,000.00 of HUD Hurricane Irma Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation funding to harden the Hertz Arena for its continued use as a general population shelter. Work will replace unhardened sections of the roof, glass entry doors, fixed windows, ticket windows and man doors and install roll-down shutters. 

Project Status: This project is in the design phase. (not funded with this award)

Project Description: The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (now the Department of Commerce) awarded Lee County $2,786,415 of HUD Hurricane Irma Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation funding to harden the Alico Arena for its continued use as a general population shelter. Work will replace unhardened sections of the roof and install new anchoring, glass storefront, and fixed glass windows.

Project Status: This project is in the design phase.

I0172 – Waste-to-Energy Plant Hardening

Project Description: The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (now the Department of Commerce) awarded Lee County $2,820,983 of HUD Hurricane Irma Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation funding to harden the Lee County Waste-to-Energy plant by replacing unhardened roofs and installing storm shutters and structure tie-downs.

Project Status: This project is in the design phase.

MT022 – Lee County Coastal Risk Assessment and Resiliency Plan (A and B Evacuation Zones)

Project Description: The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (now the Department of Commerce) awarded Lee County $253,000 of HUD Hurricane Irma Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation funding for General Planning Support to assess risk and produce mitigation recommendations for coastal public infrastructure from both storm surge and sea level rise.

Project Status: This project is in the data collection phase.  NOTE: HUD funding is directed to coastal areas within the Evacuation A and B Zones of Lee County.  Lee County also has a grant of $383,000 from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for a parallel risk assessment and mitigation recommendation study for all other areas of Lee County. The overall project will produce a comprehensive countywide study.
