Register Your State Certified License

By registering a state contractors license with the County, the license, insurance(s) and authorized signers will be kept on file which allows the licensed contractor to pull permits without having to appear and show proof with every application. Agents of the contractor, if on the authorized signer list filed with the County, are allowed to apply for and pick up permits. Registering with Lee County also allows a contractor to submit and receive permits electronically and to electronically attach their license to a permit as a subcontractor.

To register, email the following to ContractorLicensing@leegov.com:

    • A copy of your state certified license.
    • A Certificate of Insurance for General Liability and workers' compensation. The insured's name on the Certificate of Insurance must be the exact company name as it appears on the license. The following information needs to appear in the 'Certificate Holder' section*:

Local License Holders

Ordinance 23-09 grandfathered certain existing local license holders for licenses that substantially correspond to the job scopes of a state contractor license. Grandfathered local licenses are valid for a period of one year running from July 1 through June 30 and must be renewed annually.

    • Beginning six weeks prior to June 30 of each year, grandfathered license holders must renew their license. As part of the renewal, grandfathered license holders must provide updated liability insurance, workers' compensation, and the renewal fee prior to June 30 of each year to avoid losing all rights attached to the grandfathered license.

Notification of change in business status. This notification from the grandfathered license holder must be provided to the Department of Community Development within 30 days of any change of business status. Payment of a $25.00 fee must accompany this notification.
