Lung-Cancer-Screening-11-4-25
Whereas, lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, with an estimated 124,730 deaths in 2025 according to the American Cancer Society; and
Whereas, early detection through low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening can reduce lung cancer mortality by up to 20–25%; and

Whereas, despite medical recommendations, only 10–15% of eligible individuals are screened for lung cancer each year, leading to late-stage diagnoses and lower survival rates; and
Whereas, expanding access to lung cancer screening and raising awareness of its life-saving benefits are critical to reducing mortality and ensuring that all eligible individuals are screened and diagnosed at an earlier, more treatable stage; and

Whereas, Naples Cancer Advisors, along with healthcare providers throughout Florida, is dedicated to guiding patients through the lung cancer screening process — from risk assessment and early detection to diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing support — all at no cost to the patient; and

Whereas, increasing access to screening and ensuring that all eligible Floridians are informed of their risk factors are essential to improving early detection, reducing the burden of lung cancer, and saving lives across the state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE Board of County Commissioners of Lee County, Florida does hereby proclaim the month of November 2025 as
LUNG CANCER SCREENING AWARENESS MONTH
