LeeCares Hurricane Housing Recovery Programs

Income-eligible homeowners who experienced property damage during hurricanes Helene and/or Milton in 2024 can now pre-apply for LeeCares Hurricane Housing Recovery Programs. Visit leeflcares.com to begin the pre-application process. Following this initial screening, a full application will be required to proceed with the HUD grant process. Individuals who need assistance with the application process may call 239-382-5453 or visit the LeeCares Intake Center, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9400 Gladiolus Drive, Suite 270 in Fort Myers.

Rainy season and updated permitting documentation for storm repairs

As we enter the rainy season, proactive preparation is key to minimizing risks to personal safety and property. Heavy downpours, sheetflow, and hurricanes can lead to rising waters and potential flooding. If your property is affected by storms (or any damage related event), remember that permits are required for any repairs to the structure. For properties within the flood zone, an additional layer of review and documentation is necessary before repairs can proceed. To ensure compliance to floodplain regulations, be sure to download the updated Detailed Cost Breakdown document, which must accompany any repair permit application in the flood zone.

More than 60 projects can be viewed via list or map and users can learn more about individual projects in detailed project pages.

Community Development Block Grant

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded Lee County funding to support long‐term recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian. The funding may only be used for necessary expenses related to disaster relief, long-term recovery, restoration of infrastructure and housing, economic revitalization, mitigation, and planning. Hurricane Ian Disaster Relief Assistance Available

You may be eligible for Hurricane Ian Disaster Relief assistance through Community Services Block Grant - Disaster Relief Supplemental Funding, such as past-due rent or mortgage, relocation move-in cost assistance and temporary emergency housing accommodations, if necessary.
