Wild Turkey Strand Preserve is the third-largest Conservation 20/20 preserve in Lee County. The preserve is located just south of Lehigh Acres on the west side of State Road 82.

The main plant communities at this preserve include pine flatwoods, cypress strand swamps, cypress dome swamps, freshwater marshes, and wet prairies.

The most recent land parcel for the preserve was acquired through the Conservation 20/20 Legacy Program. This addition is named the Elizabeth and Thomas Morrison Tract.

Although all amenities are ADA-accessible, only the western section (0.7-mile) of the 1.8-mile Gunner's Trail is ADA-accessible. Please note that during the summer rainy season, primitive sections of the trail may be wet or underwater.

The land within this preserve was formerly used as part of the Buckingham Army Air Field, a U.S. military training base between 1943 and 1945 during World War II. Some structures from the air field remain onsite, including two munitions building. Interpretive panels are displayed along the Gunner's Trail for visitors. To learn more, download the Buckingham Army Air Field brochure or watch this short video.

Please note: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is currently widening State Road 82 as part of a multi-year road-widening project. Visitors to the preserve may encounter changing traffic patterns on State Road 82 when navigating to the Rod & Gun Club Road intersection to access the preserve entrance. Information on this FDOT project and others in the area can be found online at http://swflroads.com/sr82/leetohendry/ and http://swflroads.com/sr82/leeblvdtoshawnee/.
