Local Housing Assistance Plan
The Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP) was prepared for the county's participation in the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program, in compliance with Florida Statute 420.907 and Florida Administrative Code Rule 67-37. The program is administered by the Lee County Department of Community Development, which also oversees the local government comprehensive plan, zoning, permitting, and environmental resources services. Lee County’s SHIP program provides funding and technical assistance to nonprofit housing development organizations and down payment/closing cost assistance to qualified homebuyers.

State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP)
SHIP - State Housing Initiative Partnership is the centerpiece of the William E. Sadowski Affordable Housing Act. The SHIP program channels a portion of new and existing documentary stamp taxes on deeds directly to local governments for the development and maintenance of affordable housing.
SHIP Application deadline is 4 p.m. October 10, 2014 - Application period from Oct. 6-10, 2014
The SHIP allocation for FY 2014/2015 is $1,907,917 with $1,717,125 available. No applications will be accepted prior to October 6, 2014. Applications must be postmarked or delivered by the Friday, October 10, 2014 deadline, no later than 4:00 p.m. Faxed and e-mailed applications will not be accepted. Applications received after the deadline will be disqualified, along with any faxed or e-mailed applications. Please mail to:

Instructions for documenting Special Needs
At least 20 percent of the 2014-2015 SHIP allocation must be used to serve persons with special needs (as defined in section 420.0004(13) Florida Statutes). First priority will be to serve persons with developmental disabilities (as defined in section 393.063 Florida Statutes) by providing home modifications, including technological enhancements and devices which will allow homeowners to remain independent in their own homes and maintain their homeownership.
