YELLOW FEVER CREEK |

The Yellow Fever Creek Watershed is located in the northwestern area of Lee County. It is approximately eight square miles in area, with six of the eight coming from the East Branch tributary of Yellow Fever Creek. This watershed originates at its confluence with Hancock Creek, which in turn discharges into the Caloosahatchee. This confluence is approximately one-half mile south of Pine Island Road (S.R. 78). The channel then runs upstream in a northwesterly direction, crossing S.R. 78 and also Littleton Road. It terminates at the Cape Coral City limits. Yellow Fever Creek is located between Hancock Creek, Cape Coral and Yellow Fever Creek - East Branch.
The watershed boundary has not changed significantly since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering. That 1979 report perpetuated a 1961 watershed study by Smally, Wellford and Nalven. Development of parcels in Yellow Fever Creek East Branch Watershed have made slight realignments along the interface between the two watersheds.
Much of the flow in the upper portion of the watershed that contributed to Yellow Fever Creek prior to the development of Cape Coral (pre-1960) has been redirected to the west through the Cape Coral canal system. Small amounts of overflow runoff may be received from the yet undeveloped portions of Cape Coral adjacent to this watershed. It is anticipated these areas will be incorporated into the Cape Coral System as development occurs and these overflows will cease. The Yellow Fever Creek main trunk remains a natural channel which has seen little modification.
The Yellow Fever Creek Watershed boundary map is located on page 16Y-3. Structural data is shown in the Appendix on page 16Y-WM. The stationing shown on the map relates to the flood profiles as well as the structures. The structural facilities are shown in the relative area of their actual location. Limitations of scale do not permit structures to be shown at their exact locations on the ground. This map is intended for general information only. Lengths and widths of structures should not be determined by scaling the symbols shown. |
