The Palm Creek Watershed is located in the north central area of Lee County. It is slightly less than two square miles in size. The trunk originates at the Caloosahatchee and is approximately one and a half miles long. The Palm Creek Watershed is approximately one-half mile wide by three and a half miles long. It is located east of the Stroud Creek Watershed and west of the Kickapoo Creek and Owl Creek watersheds.
The watershed boundary has changed significantly since the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan." An area of about 1.2 square miles in the southwest portion of the watershed is coastal drainage based on the one foot contours and field observations. The boundary between the Palm Creek Watershed and the adjacent watersheds has also undergone some modification due to further study. Overall, the watershed has been reduced in size approximately 0.7 square miles from the Interim Report boundary.
Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There is a break in the watershed boundary at the intersection of Palm Creek Drive and SR 78. A 24" diameter corrugated metal pipe runs under Palm Creek Drive along the north side of SR 78. Approximately two acres of the FP&L power line easement located on the northwest corner of the intersection drain into Palm Creek. The Palm Creek trunk remains a natural channel which has seen little modification.
A general description of the Palm Creek Watershed boundary is as follows: the northwest corner of the watershed starts at a point approximately 4,900 feet west of Shirley Lane and 1,700 feet north of Sharon Road; then run east for 1,700 feet and northeast for approximately 1,000 feet; then east for 1,400 feet to a point approximately 4,000 feet west of SR 31; then run south for 5,500 feet to Ruden Lane; then southwest for approximately 1,300 feet; then south for 900 feet; then southwest for approximately 850 feet to the intersection of Deal Road and Palm Creek Drive; then run south along Palm Creek Drive for approximately 7,800 feet to the intersection of Palm Creek Drive and SR 78; then continue south and southwest by contour to the north bank of the Caloosahatchee; then west along the north bank of the Caloosahatchee for approximately 100 feet; then northwest for 2,200 feet to a point on SR 78 approximately 1,200 feet west of the channel; then run west along SR 78 for 650 feet; then north for approximately 100 feet; then northeast, north and northwest by contour to a point on the power line grade approximately 2,350 feet west of Palm Creek Drive; then continue northwest, northeast, and north by contour to a point on Deal Road approximately 1,750 feet east of Durrance Road; then run east along Deal Road for 500 feet; then north, northeast, and east by contour to the FP&L power line grade; then northwest for 1,400 feet along the power line grade; then north for 3,900 feet to the northwest corner.
