ORANGE RIVER

The Orange River Watershed is located in the eastern area of Lee County. The area is approximately 77 square miles. The northeastern watershed boundaries are adjacent to Hickey Creek and Bedman Creek watersheds. The southern border of this watershed lies along SR 82 with the exception of a portion of the Mirror Lakes development which lies south of SR 82. The western boundary of this watershed lies along Interstate 75 in the northern portion of the watershed and lies primarily along section lines from SR 82 north for approximately four miles. The upstream portion of this watershed lies within the East County Water Control District. The upper reaches of the Orange River extend to the outfall of the Harn's Marsh detention area. The Harn's Marsh detention facility is a primary outfall of the East County Water Control District's Able Drainageway and Sailfish Drainageway.

The watershed boundary has not significantly changed since construction of the East County Water Control District drainageway system and the construction of the Townsend Canal in Hendry County. The watershed maps prepared by engineers for the East County Water Control District are in substantial agreement with the boundaries defined in this study.

The Orange River Watershed boundary map is located on page 40-W3. It delineates the overall land boundary and identifies adjacent watersheds. The watershed map on page 40-WM has data for structures along the channel. The stationing shown on 40-WM has data for structures along the channel. The stationing shown on 40-WM relates to the flood profile as well as the structures. The structural facilities are shown in the relative area of their actual location. Limitations of scale do not permit structures to be shown at their exact locations on the ground. This map is intended for general information only. Lengths and widths of structures should not be determined by scaling the symbols shown.
