A resolution was introduced at the BoCC meeting on Tuesday, May 14th, which provides authorization and a mechanism for Lee County to accept the donation of land and allows the County to pave roads in Suncoast Estates over a period of time utilizing Community Development Block Grant funds. Ongoing maintenance of the paved roads and the canal will be the responsibility of Lee County once they are brought up to County standards and formally accepted by the County for maintenance. Lee County’s BoCC county attorney recruitment web page has been developed to provide the public with information about the search for a new county attorney, and it’s now open for people who want to submit questions for the candidates who will be considered for the position. This is similar to a web page set up earlier this year for the public to submit prospective county manager interview questions.

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners is tentatively scheduled to interview the finalists for the county attorney position in early August. 

Additional information included on the county attorney recruitment website includes a timeline, information on the search firm facilitating the recruitment, a county attorney profile and more.

With the inclusion of this question submittal link, the public will be able to compose and submit for consideration questions that the interview panel may present to the final candidates. The link and guidelines for question submittal, can be found at

More than 30 of Florida’s best high school baseball teams will compete for their respective class titles starting May 15 at JetBlue Park.

The tournament will showcase 32 teams from the Florida High School Athletic Association Baseball Finals, including the contenders for the state championships in 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A and 8A.

Lee County has not hosted one of the state baseball finals since 1967. Bringing the event to Lee County was a combined effort of the Lee County Sports Authority, Lee County Parks & Recreation, the Red Sox and the Lee County School District. The Florida High School Athletics Association’s event has an estimated economic impact of $1.8 million.

Play will happen Wednesday, May 15, through Thursday, May 23, with the exception of Sunday, May 19. Parking is $8 daily; admission is $9. For a complete schedule, visit www.fhsaa.org/sports/baseball.

This event is just one of many at JetBlue Park, which saw 349 days of action in 2012, including 80 days of amateur baseball and more than six months of nearly daily youth soccer play. So far this year, the site also has been used for a sports expo, a rock music festival, a women's collegiate rugby championship and an auto-sale event.
