This preserve is located directly north of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, providing a crucial hydrological link to improve water flow into the slough. Additionally, this land is very important to the health of the slough, as it contains its historic headwaters. A hydrologic restoration project is also underway at this preserve (click here for more information).

The property contains pine flatwoods, oak hammocks and cypress swamps. A portion of an abandoned railroad grade remains on the property, which once transported military supplies to the former Buckingham Army Air Field during World War II. Download Buckingham Army Air Field brochure

The large size of this property makes it a highly viable wildlife area. For this reason, the Lee County Department of Transportation constructed a wildlife crossing under Buckingham Road to allow for wildlife to safely travel between this property and the Slough.
