Public Information Workshop Summerlin Road/San Carlos Boulevard Overpass

Fort Myers, FL, November 26, 2003 - The Lee County Department of Transportation will conduct a public information workshop concerning the Summerlin Road/San Carlos Boulevard overpass project. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church Gymnasium, 9065 Ligon Court in Fort Myers (next to Lexington Country Club).

The intersection of Summerlin Road and San Carlos Boulevard is currently operating at level of service (LOS) F, which corresponds to a failing condition as defined by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). In order to improve traffic conditions and provide an acceptable level of service, an overpass is required at this intersection. Construction of an at-grade intersection at this location instead of the proposed overpass would result in longer drive times, lower gas mileage and degrade air quality. The proposed overpass will carry Summerlin Road traffic over San Carlos Boulevard without traveling through the signalized intersection.

The public information workshop is being held to present the conceptual design plans and receive comments about possible enhancements such as architectural treatments, landscaping and signage to the overpass design that may be desired by the public. Representatives from Lee County will be on hand to discuss the details of the project, answer questions and receive comments. The workshop will be conducted in an "open house" format; no formal presentation will be given. The public may attend the workshop anytime from 5 - 7 p.m. Lee County Commissioners may also be in attendance at this public information workshop.
