FORT MYERS, FL., November 26, 2003 - The Lee County Library System's new online catalog debuts today with a new look and new options to make getting items easier.
Automation and Training Manager, Mindi Simon says patrons now will have the same interface from their home computers as in the library, and will be able to see book jackets, book summaries, table of contents and reviews (when available). Remote access patrons can also simply click on an item from our Hot Titles page for a direct link to the item in our catalog to place a hold.
"This gives patrons the same look and feel of the Amazon.com and major book store websites, with easy access to the information they need to select the book, CD, DVD or other item that's right for them. The new catalog allows patrons to place multiple holds without having to reenter their library card numbers for each title. And our automated calling system will call to let you know when your items are available."
The new online catalog also includes features for research including access to the library system's Clubs and Organizations database. Remote users can access the library's subscription electronic databases including ProQuest (providing newspaper, magazine and periodical articles from major and academic publications) and First Search (browse and reserve titles from libraries around the world). Simply enter your library card number and follow the prompts.
Patrons can also use the new catalog to find out what materials they currently have out or on hold and due dates for items, and can renew most items for an additional 2 weeks. Library card information remains available until the user logs off to end the session.
The new catalog was introduced in the Fort Myers- Lee County Public Library on November 12 and implemented at all locations by November 21; today the catalog is online for access from outside the library at www.lee-county.com/library click on Catalog Search.
