Sanibel Causeway Improvements Project Reevaluation of Bridge "A" Public Workshop (6:30-7:30 p.m.) and Public Hearing (7:30 p.m.) October 1, 2003 Cypress Lake Middle School

Fort Myers, FL, September 25, 2003 - The Lee County Department of Transportation (DOT) will hold a public information workshop and a public hearing for the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study Reevaluation of Bridge "A" of the Sanibel Causeway Improvements Project on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Cypress Lakes Middle School, 8901 Cypress Lake Drive, Fort Myers, Florida. The public workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the public hearing will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.

During the public workshop, displays and documentation prepared for the Reevaluation of Bridge "A" will be available for review. County representatives will be present to answer questions regarding the technical aspects of the Reevaluation of Bridge "A".

The public information workshop will also present aesthetic options and architectural elements for the Sanibel Causeway design. There are a multitude of designs and decorative textures available for the architectural treatment on the columns and retaining walls. There are several "open" railing options to choose from which provide a virtually unobstructed view of the water and landscape. A native plant palette and opportunities for landscaping will also be on display for review and comment. The project team is asking the public for input on the aesthetics options for the Sanibel Causeway design. Computer generated renderings for the entire causeway improvements project will be available.

The public hearing will begin with a slide presentation that will give information about the Reevaluation of Bridge "A". The public will then be given the opportunity to enter comments into the public record, which will become the official public record for the document submitted to the US Coast Guard.

Anyone needing special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 should contact Kris Cella at 239-337-1071 at least seven days prior to the hearing.
