LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS HOST 3RD ANNUAL FALL PET FEST!

Fort Myers, Florida, 9/22/03—Lee County Animal Services, the Humane Society of Collier County, and Collier County Domestic Animal Services are teaming up to host the third annual Fall Pet Fest!  The event will be held October 25, 2003 at Lee County Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The three local shelters are partnering for this event to bring the pet community together.  The goal is to increase awareness for the need to find homes for Lee County’s orphaned pets and to educate pet owners on proper pet ownership, including the importance of spaying and neutering.   In the process, a fun day of activities will be provided.

In 2002 over 27,000 pets ended up in local shelters in Lee, Collier, and Hendry Counties.  Due to pet overpopulation, more than 13,000 of these animals were euthanized.  It is the agencies’ hope to have every available home filled by a shelter pet.  Many wonderful pets in a variety of breeds, colors, and sizes from the shelters and other rescue organizations in the tri-county area will be available for adoption.

In addition, pet owners can bring their own pets out for a day of fun and activities.  Local celebrities will judge contests with trophies and prizes for the most talented pet, “ugliest” dog, and spookiest, cutest and best over-all costumes!  Other highlights include a pet fashion show, fly ball, agility, dog training, search and rescue dog demonstrations, pet portraits, pony rides, and exotic pets.  Pet owners will receive expert advice from veterinarians, dog trainers, pet sitters, groomers, and visit vendors with plenty of products for pampered pets.  Nationally registered Microchip Pet IDs will be only $15 with $5 going to the United Way of Lee County.
