COMMISSIONER JANES APPOINTED TO NACO LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 26, 2003) - Lee County Commissioner Bob Janes has been appointed chairman of the National Association of Counties' (NACo) Medicaid Indigent Subcommittee, NACo's President Karen M. Miller has announced.

He also will serve as a member of NACo's Health Steering Committee, which the Medicaid Indigent Subcommittee is under, and Membership Committee for fiscal year 2003-04. Janes has been on the Health Steering Committee since 2001.

NACo is the only national organization representing county governments in the United States. Its goals are to improve county government, act as a liaison with other levels of government, present the county position on national issues and advance public understanding of the role of counties.

NACo's 11 steering committees form the policy-making arm of the association.

Janes also serves as chairman of the Florida Association of Counties' (FAC) Health and Human Services Committee and is on FAC's Board of Directors.

Commissioner Janes was elected to the Board of Lee County Commissioners in 2000 and served as chairman in 2002. He represents District 1, which includes Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island, Boca Grande and portions of Cape Coral.
