RESTORATION OF SAN CARLOS PARK ARCHES COMPLETED

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. (July 25, 2003) - After a month of work the restoration of the San Carlos Park Arches is now complete.

The arches sustained damage in October 2002 by the lift fork of a recycling truck that wasn't lowered before attempting to pass under them. The repair costs were paid by the garbage collection company's insurance and Lee County's Municipal Services Taxing/Benefit Unit managed the repair project.

The location of arches over a public road and the need for the restored arches to meet modern safety standards lengthened the project.

The San Carlos Park Arches have been Lee County landmarks since their 1964 construction. The arches were initially built to cover the Constitution Boulevard/U.S. 41 intersection but have since become a symbol of the San Carlos Park Community.

The San Carlos Park Community has an MSTU that provides for the regular maintenance of the arches.
