HALF CLOSURE OF ZINNIA ROAD IN SAN CARLOS PARK TO CALM TRAFFIC

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 25, 2003) - The Lee County Department of Transportation has permanently closed one entrance to Zinnia Road in San Carlos Park as a way to divert traffic and prevent the local street from being a busy shortcut.

The change was made Wednesday (July 23).

Here's how it works:

• Motorists will not be allowed to enter Zinnia Road from San Carlos Boulevard to head north.  This modification is designed to divert northbound traffic to adjacent collector roads, primarily Lee Boulevard.
• Zinnia Road north of the San Carlos Boulevard intersection will remain a two-way street.
• Southbound Zinnia Road traffic will remain unchanged; you still will be able to make right and left turns at the San Carlos Boulevard intersection.

The road modification is designed to divert northbound traffic toward Lee Road to adjacent collector roads in an attempt to preserve the local street operation of Zinnia Road. 

The public is asked to adhere to the traffic diversion, regulatory signs and pavement markings that have been installed to provide information about the change in intersection operation.
