FIESTA VILLAGE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT CONSTRUCTION WINS AWARD

FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 9, 2003) - Centex Rooney Construction Company has received an "Excellence in Construction" Award for its $7 million expansion of the county's Fiesta Village Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The award is given by the Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. and recognizes outstanding quality of workmanship. Centex Rooney won for the public works category, projects in the $3 million to $10 million range.

The project - completed in October 2002 - doubled the size of the Fiesta Village plant from a capacity of 2.5 million gallons per day (mgd) to 5 mgd. Fiesta Village Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility, built in 1985, serves south Lee County and is located at 1366 San Souci Drive, which is just south of Cypress Lake Drive between McGregor Boulevard and Winkler Road.

The expansion was needed to handle growth in the area and to provide for reclaimed storage and pumping facilities. More than 90 lift stations send wastewater to the plant. Due to the increase in size, all aspects of the plant were updated to handle the increase in flows. These aspects included the transformation of aeration equipment, instrumentation, electrical equipment along with the changing of pumps and their capacity.

The Associated Builders and Contractors considered this project monumental because the construction occurred on an existing facility. The project was completed without any system failures and no down time.

The Fiesta Village Wastewater Treatment Plant is one of five sewer plants maintained by Lee County. The other plants are Fort Myers Beach, Pine Island, High Point, and Waterway Estates.
