EMPLOYMENT LAW WORKSHOPS TO BE HELD MARCH 27

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 10, 2003) - The Lee County Office of Equal Opportunity (LCOEO), in conjunction with the Deaf Service Center and the Miami District office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), will host two employment law workshops on March 27 (Thursday) in Ft.Myers at the Lee County Constitutional Complex 2480 Thompson Street (3rd Floor).

The morning workshop is intended for small businesses and the afternoon session is intended for people who are hearing impaired and hard of hearing.

Demystifying the EEOC Process - 9:00am-12:00pm

This is a free workshop targeting the local small business community. LCOEO and EEOC will have experts on hand to provide practical advice on how to avoid the common pitfalls that can lead to discrimination complaints. They will also offer advice on what to do if a complaint is filed against your company. There will be plenty of opportunity for an open discussion on current trends, regulatory procedures and other topics of mutual concern.

All participants will receive copies of EEOC regulations, fact sheets, policy guidance and the Small Business Administration's Equal Opportunity Guide for Small Employers.

Employment Rights for the Hearing Impaired - 1:00pm-4:00pm

This is a free workshop targeting people who are hearing impaired and hard of hearing. The Deaf Service Center and EEOC will explain the employment rights of persons with hearing impairments.

Topics will include how to navigate the employment application process, the right to request an accommodation and what to do if you feel your rights have been violated. Participants will have the opportunity to speak directly to the experts about the issues that most concern them.
