KENNETH MCSTRAVIC RECEIVES
LEE COUNTY GOVERNMENT'S TOP EMPLOYEE AWARD

FORT MYERS, Fla. (February 18, 2003) - Lee County Inspector Kenneth McStravic - who displayed a continuing positive attitude and commitment to his work while dealing with a serious, life-threatening medical condition of a family member, who has recovered, and some medical problems of his own - is the annual recipient of Lee County Government's top employee award.

At its regular meeting today, the Board of Lee County Commissioners announced the selection of McStravic as the recipient of the "Candy Pittro Memorial" Award for 2002.

The award was established as a tribute to Pittro, who passed away in 1987 after a long struggle with leukemia. Her positive outlook on life was an inspiration to others and the award honors those who display the same qualities. The award is given annually for "inspiration and positive attitude in the face of adversity."

McStravic is an inspector with the county's Community Development Department. He is a 17-year employee.

From his nomination: "Ken is an outstanding role model to other county employees. He always looks forward to coming into work and helping others. He really enjoys what he does and cares how it is done. The building contractors respect him; they always have nothing but positive things to say about him.

"Ken is always willing to help out when other inspectors are on vacations or out for an illness and extra coverage is needed. He takes great pride in his responsibilities.

Other nominees this year were: Andrew Carmichael (Fleet Management), Larry Clifford (Utilities) and James Usavage (Utilities).
