Looking for True Love?
Lee County Animal Services
Offers February Adoption Special for Lovers and Friends

Fort Myers, Florida, 1/23/03 – Lee County Animal Services will offer twice the love for half the price during the entire month of February.  The shelter invites potential pet owners to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a unique way by adopting a new pet with a friend or loved one.  Any friends, spouses, family members or acquaintances that come to the shelter together will be able to adopt two pets for the price of one and receive a lifetime of unconditional love for no charge.

The regular adoption-processing fee ($65 for dogs and $50 for cats) will be charged for the first animal, but the fee will be waived for the second animal adopted at the same time (there is no discount for single adoptions during this promotion).  As always, Lee County Animal Services’ adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations and a Microchip ID (with free national registration).  For pets four months of age and older it also includes a rabies vaccination and a one-year county pet registration/license.

Lee County Animal Services takes in nearly 13,000 animals each year.  Only about 1,000 are re-claimed by their owners placing the burden on the shelter to attempt to place the remaining 12,000 animals each year.  This is just one of the many promotional events that Animal Services has planned to boost adoptions in 2003.  The shelter has also planned a special promotion to celebrate Spay Day USA.  Animal Services will offer vouchers to low-income pet owners to cover the cost of spaying and neutering their pets.  While adoptions are important in reducing euthanasia, only spaying and neutering can end pet overpopulation by reducing animal births.
