20 MPH RESTRICTION STILL IN FORCE

FORT MYERS, Fla. (January 10, 2003) – As of 2 p.m. today, Lee County has completed emergency repairs to the middle bridge of the Sanibel Causeway and trucks over 10 tons can now get onto Sanibel Island.

A 20 mph speed restriction is in place for all vehicles on the middle bridge until further notice and is being enforced by police, so count on extra time to get across the causeway.

The posted weight restriction on the bridge is up to 34 tons. No overweight permits will be issued.

The county hopes to announce the schedule for permanent repairs sometime today.
