Holiday Schedule for Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 19, 2002) – In unincorporated Lee County, City of Bonita Springs and Town of Fort Myers Beach, there will be no collection of garbage, recycling and horticulture waste on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 in observance of the Christmas holiday and also on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 in observance of the New Year’s holiday.

If your normally scheduled collection day is Wednesday, then it will be collected on Thursday; if your regular day is Thursday then it will be picked up on Friday; and if it is on Friday then it will be picked up Saturday (all regularly scheduled Monday and Tuesday pickups are not affected).  Regular collection schedule will resume January 6, 2003.

Christmas Tree Collection: Single-family homes, place Christmas tree (lights and decorations removed) at the curb on the regular horticulture pickup day.  Christmas tree collections for multi-family units (apartments, condos, etc.) place the tree in the area designated by your complex’s management and check with your management company for pickup dates.

Recycling: During the holiday celebrations remember to recycle your glass, plastic, metal, aluminum and paper items (but not wrapping paper).  Recycling does free up a lot of space in your household trashcan and is the all-around smart thing to do.  For information on what is a recyclable item, please refer to a Solid Waste Brochure, or visit our web site at www.leegov.com/solidwaste.

Hazardous Waste: Outdated and non-working electronic items (computers, monitors, televisions, printers, fax machines, copiers, etc.) may be taken to our next Household Hazardous Waste Collection scheduled for January 25, 2003 in Cape Coral at the Public Works Annex off Everest Parkway.

The Solid Waste Division wishes all Lee County residents a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
