ST. CERNY AND COY TO BE SWORN IN
FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 18, 2002) – Lee County Commissioners Doug St. Cerny and Andy Coy will be sworn-in to their fourth and third terms, respectively, Tuesday (Nov. 19) in the second floor chambers of the Old Lee County Courthouse.
The Inauguration Ceremony will be at 8:30 a.m. prior to the regular weekly Board meeting at 9:30 a.m. The Old County Courthouse is located at 2120 Main Street in downtown Fort Myers. Commission Chairman Bob Janes will serve as master of ceremonies.
The Cypress Chorale from the Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts will provide musical entertainment and a reception in the first floor lobby of the courthouse will immediately follow the ceremony. Lee County Sheriff Rod Shoap will administer St. Cerny’s oath of office and Dave Moreland will administer Coy’s.
Commissioner St. Cerny was appointed to the Board of Lee County Commissioners in March 1990 by then-Governor Bob Martinez and was subsequently elected in November 1990. He was re-elected in 1994, 1998 and 2002, most recently without opposition.
He has been the Board’s liaison to Florida Gulf Coast University since the university’s inception and has served as chairman of both the County Commission and Lee County Port Authority. This past year, St. Cerny originated the idea and was master of ceremonies for the “Patriots Remembered Day” commemoration of 9/11. He serves District 2, which includes the City of Fort Myers, east Fort Myers to I-75 and south Fort Myers to Daniels Parkway. St. Cerny is an associate with the insurance firm of Oswald Trippe & Company, Inc.
Commissioner Coy was elected to the Board in 1994 and re-elected in 1998 and 2002. Prior to his public service, he spent 12 years as a teacher and administrator in the Lee County School System.
Coy also has served as chairman of the County Commission and Port Authority and is the Board’s current liaison to the School District and for Veterans Affairs. Coy says his life’s work of educating and working for the community will continue as he concentrates on encouraging economic development while maintaining taxes at the lowest responsible level.
Coy serves District 4, which includes North Fort Myers and northern Cape Coral, east of Burnt Store Road and north of Veterans Parkway.
Between the two commissioners, they represent more than 20 years of experience on the Board. The current five commissioners have a combined 46 years of experience on the Board.
