Grand Reopening Celebration Saturday @ your library

Join in the fun at the Cape Coral- Lee County Public Library's Grand Reopening Celebration, this Saturday, August 10, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

We’ll be celebrating with a Ribbon Cutting at 9 a.m. and activities throughout the day. Children will be greeted by costumed characters: Curious George, Spot the Dog, The Cat in the Hat and Madeleine. Special guests will read stories in English and Spanish in our new story telling room. Teens can enjoy magic with Christopher Oz, or pose for caricatures by Lasso, in our Young Adult room.

Visit our butterfly garden, where our butterfly garden designer will be providing information on creating havens for these beautiful creatures. We’ll have live music in the butterfly garden as well as in the meeting room.

The expanded Cape Coral- Lee County Public Library will be 38,500 square feet (more than double its original size) and will hold nearly 200,000 items. The entire 8.6 million dollar project was completed with only nine weeks of closure in the first phase, and seven weeks of closure in the final phase. During these times, the bookmobile made weekly visits and hold materials were mailed to patrons as soon as they became available. Programs were also expanded at nearby libraries, and checkout times were extended until after the reopening.

The Cape Coral-Lee County Public Library features many "firsts" for the Lee County Library System: a separate young adult room, an audio visual room and improvements provided by "The Little Acorns". This Library Friends group raised more than $81,000 for the butterfly garden and fountain, as well as a quiet reading area, and an art gallery (to be dedicated early next year.) The Little Acorns received the Florida Library Association’s 2002 Friends and Trustees Citation Award in recognition of their efforts.
