Myers, FL, May 16, 2002 - The Lee County
Department of Transportation (DOT) will conduct a public information workshop
for the Plantation/Palmetto Road Extension from Idlewild Road north to Abbott
Street. The workshop will be held
from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Wednesday, May 23, 2002 at the Life Church, 11735
Plantation Road, Fort Myers, Florida.
Plantation
Road is proposed as a four lane divided roadway by the year 2020.
The road will terminate at Colonial Boulevard and then continue north as
Palmetto Avenue. Funding is in
place now for the planning, design and construction of a two-lane road from
Idlewild Street to Abbot Street. It
is expected that private development will construct the section from Colonial
Boulevard south to Abbott Street.
The
purpose of the facility is to add addition north-south capacity and connections
to major east-west roadways.
Lee
County DOT is considering three alignment alternatives for the
Plantation/Palmetto Road Extension. This
public workshop is being held to present the alignment alternatives, receive
public comment and answer questions about the project.
The workshop will be conducted in an “open house” format; no
formal presentation will be given.
Informational displays about the study will be available for review and
representatives from the Lee County Department of Transportation will be
available to answer questions.
