LEE COUNTY WEB SITE BREAKS RECORD FOR NUMBER OF “HITS”

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 12, 2002) – For the second month in a row, Lee County Government’s web site has broken the record for the total number of visits it is receiving.

The site www.lee-county.com received 2,144,935 hits in March, or an average of 69,191 per day.  In February, the site received 2,094,474 visits.  The count includes both external and internal (from within county government) visits, but is primarily people from the outside seeking information.

In March, the county started posting its complete weekly agenda packages online, making it easier for citizens to follow issues.  The packages include the Board of Lee County Commissioners’ agenda, the one-page description of each item the Commission is being asked to approve, and all of the supporting documentation, including contracts, agreements and legal documents.  Board agendas and backup routinely run several hundred pages.

This is one of many technological innovations the county has developed over the last several years to make county government information more accessible and improve communication with the public.  Other online applications at the county’s website include:

§         Contact Your Commissioner – E-mail a question or comment

§         All county ordinances (local laws)

§         The Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code (searchable by keyword)

§         The Library System’s card catalogue

§         Human Services Directory (searchable database of local agencies)

§         Parks & Recreation programs and facilities online registration (secure payment by credit card)

§         Department of Transportation “Requests for Action” – complete an online request for service

§         Financial documents – annual budget book, revenue manual, debt manual
