Cape Coral Library "Little Acorns" Win State Award

The Florida Library Association’s Friends and Trustees Section has named the Cape Coral Library "Little Acorns" Friends Group as the recipient of this year’s Citation Award for Special Projects.

The award will be presented at this year's FLA Annual Awards Luncheon, which will be held Wednesday, April 10, from noon- 1:30 p.m. at the Adam's Mark Resort, in Daytona Beach. Nellie Slaton, a member of the "Little Acorns" and President of the Foundation for the Lee County Library System will accept the award.

The FLA selected the "Little Acorns" in recognition for their fund-raising activities for the expansion and enhancement of the Cape Coral- Lee County Public Library. The group raised $81,356.40 for the project, through donations, book sales and other fund-raising events.

Last November, the "Little Acorns" presented a check for the full amount to the Lee County Board of Commissioners. The funds will be used for a number of improvements at the expanded library, including a butterfly garden, outdoor reading area and fountain, as well as an art gallery and seating for a quiet reading area.

The Cape Coral- Lee County Public Library is one of the busiest libraries in the Lee County Library System and it will be doubling in size to over 40,000 square feet once the entire expansion project is completed this August.
