FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The next item you check out from the Lee County Library System will be "one in a million."
The Lee County Library System now has one million books, CDs, DVDs, audio books and other materials in our collection. That's up from just over 900,000 items that were available last year.
The one millionth title is a book on CD. No End Save Victory: Perspectives on World War II, is an essay compilation, narrated by Leo Burmester, edited by Robert Cowley with essays by Stephen E. Ambrose, Caleb Carr, John Keegan and others. The CD will have a commemorative plate and will be available for check out at the Rutenberg Branch Library in the next few days.
"This is a major milestone for the Lee County Library System and shows just how much our library system is keeping up with the needs of our growing community." said Director Cynthia Cobb.
Over the last year, the Lee County Library System has also seen large increases in circulation and attendance at library programs.
More than 187,000 people visited a Lee County Library during the last fiscal year. More than 86,000 adults and children attended library programs, from book discussions to special presentations by authors and scholars. More than 9,000 children and teens participated in the Summer Reading programs (an increase of 24% over last year) and materials were checked out more than 2.8 million times.
