Lee County's Tech Industry
Continues to Grow with
Fox Electronics Expansion
Fort Myers, FL — The Economic Development Office of Lee County is pleased to announce the expansion of Fox Electronics, a Fort Myers manufacturer and worldwide distributor for more than 20 years. The privately held company makes quartz frequency control timing products, such as quartz crystals, clock oscillators and crystal filters, including the patented Just In Time Oscillator® (also known as the JITO® Oscillator) for the electronics industry.
Fox Electronics has recently opened a new 10,000-square-foot facility that will become the company's new JITO® programming center. The move happened because of a massive increase in worldwide demand for the JITO® oscillator. The company's patented product reduces standard lead times from 10 weeks to 10 days or less for both standard and custom oscillators.
E. L. Fox, Jr., president of Fox Electronics, said, "We're not surprised at the success of our JITO® oscillator program because of the booming demand in the marketplace for fast turnaround on oscillators, but we are delighted with the market's response. Our forecast for the future of Fox's JITO® oscillator programming capacity includes producing and shipping more than one million units per month by the end of next year."
Fox Electronics was considering the option of moving the new operation out of the county, but the Economic Development Office of Lee County worked closely with the company and convinced the owners to stay here. The expansion will have an economic impact in the first year of $3.5 million and create 27 new direct and indirect high-wage jobs.
Janet Watermeier, director for the Economic Development Office for Lee County, said, "The technology cluster in Lee County is growing rapidly--it now employs more than 6,000 people--and that's particularly impressive when you see how fierce the competition is from other communities trying to lure these companies away from us."
The new 10,000-square-foot JITO® programming center will be located near Fox's original headquarters in Lee County in the Enterprise Zone at Billy's Creek Commerce Center. E. L. Fox, Jr. says the new facility will enhance Fox Electronics' position as the global leader for programmed oscillators.
