Paint the Public Library's Wagon
What could be more appealing to an artist than having the canvas he or she created move throughout Lee County daily, being noticed and appreciated by the multitude of travelers and commuters on our roads?
The Lee County Library System and The News-Press have presented just such an opportunity to local artists in the Readers on the Move Bookmobile Design Contest, running from now through Nov. 22. Official entry forms are available at any branch of the Lee County Library System.
The Lee County Bookmobile is a library on wheels, visiting families and neighborhoods throughout the county. As part of recent renovations and upgrades, the vehicle is getting a facelift, and the winning artist's design will be painted on both sides of the bookmobile.
The winner will be announced in the Dec. 3 edition of The News-Press, and the artist's name will be displayed on the Bookmobile with the winning design. Contestants must use the theme Readers on the Move in their design, and all designs must be submitted on the official entry form or produced separately and stapled to the completed form.
Currently the Bookmobile is traveling throughout the county wearing only white primer paint in anticipation of its new colorful design. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, and any artistic medium -- including crayon, paint, colored pencils or color printer -- may be used to produce the design.
