Lee County Special Olympics has brought home the gold...
I have just returned from the Special Olympics Aquatics State Meet in Pensacola. We had 9 athletes from the Lee County area compete and most have brought home the gold in at least one event if not all.
Competition was fierce, in most events the athletes were neck and neck. Our 4X50 meter relay team gave us the best show. Our anchor swimmer Willie Twaits brought us from 4 place all the way to take the gold by 300th of a second.

I want to thank all those who chipped in to help us make this event the best for the athletes.
Juan Cordero (County EMS office) and his wife volunteered by helping coach, chaperoning and cheering for our athletes. Their daughter did bring home the gold.
San Carlos Park Community Center staff for lending us the vehicle to transport all the athletes to and from Pensacola. Vans are at a premium during summer camp.
John Zavacky for the great job coaching and pushing our Olympians to do the best they can.
Barbara Manzo and JY for their support and encouragement of the Lee County Special Olympic program.
If anyone has questions or knows of anyone who interested in participating in anyway they contact me. Thank you.
