FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 24, 2000) – Lee County
Animal Services is teaming up with thousands of animal welfare organizations
across the United States and around the world for Pet Adoptathon 2000, an
event designed to unite pet-loving adopters with homeless pets that are in need
of quality homes.
Pet Adoptathon 2000, sponsored by North Shore Animal
League and PETsMART, is a two-day event scheduled May 6 & 7 (10 a.m. to 4
p.m.) that aims to link thousands of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens with good
loving adopters. The event also kicks
off Animal Services’ “Be Kind to Animals Week”
celebration, which will feature a Pet Fair.
The Pet Fair will include activities for the entire family, information about pets and pet ownership, plus the opportunity to meet exotic animals and dogs from K-9 Units and Search and Rescue organizations. Pet owners can attend a series of short programs throughout the day on topics such as veterinary care, pet first aid, grooming, and animal safety.
Both events will be at the Animal Services Shelter, 5600 Banner Drive, which is located within Six-Mile Commercial Park off Six-Mile Cypress Parkway. The public is invited to attend.
Animal Services takes in nearly 10,000 animals
annually and is faced with the task of finding homes for 8,000 pets each year
that are not claimed by their owners.
The agency hopes to match as many homeless, but wonderful, pets as
possible with new families during the Pet Adoptathon 2000 weekend.
