CONCERT IN PARK SERIES KICKS OFF WITH ZYDECKO PERFORMANCE

FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 13, 2001) – Lee County Parks & Recreation is kicking off its annual Concert in the Park Series at Three Oaks Community Park Nov. 17 (Saturday) with one of the top Zydecko bands in the country.

Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band from New Orleans will be the featured act. The concert is scheduled to run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event starts at 6 p.m.

The concert series is free and soda, beer and food vendors are on site. Coolers are not allowed into the event.

Three concerts are planned for this season’s series. Past concerts typically have drawn between 1,500 and 2,000 people. Sponsors this year include San Carlos Park Sunshine Ace Hardware, radio station B103.9, J.J. Taylor Distributing, Vanderbilt Inn on the Gulf, Bill Vernay Movers and the San Carlos Park Optimist Club.

Three Oaks Community Park is located at 18251 Three Oaks Parkway just south of Alico Road in the Three Oaks/San Carlos Park community. The park has baseball fields, soccer fields, bike/jogging trails, picnic tables, shelters and grills, a playground, tennis courts, basketball courts and racquet ball courts.

Lee County’s Parks & Recreation Department maintains and operates 3,500 acres of developed park land, 14 centers, 9 pools, five boat ramps, three Gulf beach parks, one lakefront beach, 76 beach accesses, 60 tennis courts, 73 ballfields, and 13 preserves. The department’s fiscal year 2002 operating budget was $16.2 million.
