PUBLIC HEARING SET FOR LEE TRAN ROUTE AND SCHEDULE RESTRUCTURING

FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 29, 2001) – The date has been set for the public hearing on Lee Tran’s final route and schedule restructuring proposal.

The hearing will take place Sep. 11 (Tuesday) at 5 p.m. in the Lee County Commission Chambers of the Old County Courthouse, 2120 Main Street in downtown Fort Myers.

The recommended service modifications will affect each route in the current Lee Tran system to some extent. Some routes will have only time schedule changes, some will be completely redesigned and some will be eliminated. The final proposal will create a new route and schedule network for the Lee Tran system.

Lee Tran plans to implement the recommended changes on Nov. 1.

Highlights of the proposed changes include:

	Route Redesign	Routes 10, 20, 40, 50, 60, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, and Ft Myers Beach Trolley
	Schedule Changes	All Routes (including commuter trips)
	New Route	Route 15, serving central Fort Myers to Edison Mall
	Combined with Existing Routes	Routes 85 and 115
	Elimination	Routes 150 and 160

The changes are recommended in order to achieve:

A redesigned route network reflecting travel patterns of existing Lee Tran customers, as well as appeal to potential customers;
Reallocation of revenue hours of service to those areas of the system with greatest ridership demand for transit services; and
Financial and operational efficiency within the current level of operating revenue hours expansions over a five (5) year period.
