On Saturday, August 25, 2001, 10 AM, the Lee County Board of County Commissioners will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hickey's Creek Mitigation Park in Alva. The ceremony will at 18000 State Route 80. Lee County Commissioner, John Albion, will serve as master of ceremonies. He will be joined by numerous officials from the Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Communities Trust and park enthusiasts. The 780 acre park construction project will cost $ 765,000.

The ceremony is open to the public and area citizens are encouraged to attend the festivities.
