NEW BIKEPATHS/SIDEWALKS APPROVED IN UNINCORPORATED LEE COUNTY
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 20, 2001) – The Board of Lee County Commissioners today approved the construction of more than five miles of pedestrian sidewalks and bicycle paths around the county.
The $1.4-million allocation for Fiscal Year 2000-01 is based on recommendations by the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee, which is made up of local residents.
The approved list and projected costs are:

2. Leeland Heights Boulevard from North Avenue to Lee Blvd. (1.5 miles), cost: $520,000.3. East side of Hart Rd. from Bayshore Rd. to Baptist Victory Church (0.3 miles), cost: $90,000.
4. Lee Rd. from San Carlos Blvd. to Sanibel Blvd. (0.2 miles), cost: $50,000.
5. Fordham Street from Woodland Blvd. to Crystal Dr. (0.4 miles), cost: $120,000.
6. *Ballard Rd. from Ortiz Ave. to Nuna Ave. (0.4 miles), cost: $70,000.
7. *Ballard Rd. from Marsh Ave. to Palmetto Ave. (0.6 miles), cost: $100,000.
*Additional projects if funds are available.
Lee County allocates about $1.1 million a year for the construction of sidewalks and bikepaths. Currently, the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee has outstanding requests for future projects of $18.6 million, which would build 47 miles of bicycle and pedestrian paths.
