BIG CARLOS BRIDGE WORK MAY RESTRICT TRAFFIC TO ONE LANE

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 2, 2001) – Starting Monday night (Mar. 5), traffic over Big Carlos Bridge may be restricted to one lane during nighttime hours for about a week to allow for bridge repairs.

Nighttime work only will be done if it is needed. Work on the bridge will continue during the days but there will be no lane closures.

The two-lane bridge crosses Big Carlos Pass between Estero Island and Lovers Key.

If closures are needed, they will begin as soon as traffic permits each night, but no earlier than 7 p.m. Both lanes will be open to traffic by 6 a.m. each morning.

At night, motorists will have to wait to be directed across the bridge due to the one-way traffic.
