LEE COUNTY GOVERNMENT UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN GOAL EXCEEDED BY 86%
Lee County Government United Way Campaign Total Of $61,675.79 Exceeds Goal By 86%!
On August 14, 2001, Department Directors were asked to select Team Captains to represent their Department for Lee County Governments annual United Way campaign. Twenty-four enthusiastic individuals volunteered and meet on August 22nd to discuss the campaign and set the 2001 goal. Totals from previous campaign years were: 1997 - $26,005.00; 1998 - $32,593.00; 1999 - $30,058.00; 2000 - $26,518.00. Team Captains were determined to exceed those totals and set a goal of $33,000.00. Kay Timms, United Way Campaign Division Manager and Mark Morris, President and CEO First National Bank Fort Myers attended the meeting and talked about United Way and the impact of our support for our community.
Campaign Chair, Angie Edens and Director Libby Walker discussed doing "special projects" in addition to the pledge cards. That started Team Captains planning fun "fund-raising" activities. The success of the Departments' special projects efforts was reflected by the special projects total of $5,569.79, raising the grand total of the campaign to $61,675.79.
Pledge cards were distributed by Team Captains on October 29th with the campaign running until November 9th. On November 16th a prize drawing was held in the lobby of the Lee County Administration Building for employees pledging $52.00 and $78.00 per year. Team Captains contacted businesses to donate prizes that were used in the prize drawing. Due to the generous business donations a total of 171 prizes were given out. Other businesses participated by supplying gift certificates for special projects, ice cream for the ice cream social, supplies for the Department of Transportation pancakes breakfast, Everblades autographed jersey, and reduced price for pet micro-chipping. Lee County Government acknowledges and thanks these businesses.
